Archbishop McKnight repeats the same factual and rational errors, on the death penalty, as has the Roman Catholic Church been making since 1995. Yes, vengeance is holy and belongs to God, but the Church knows that just retribution is required, specifically with executions and murders, as required by Genesis 9:6, which is for all persons and all time, and as detailed within all five books of the Pentateuch, to which all Christians and Jews must adhere.
We know that The Church's statement “the common good can be safeguarded and requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment.” is untrue. It is as obvious as saying that the Church "can" safeguard children from predator priests, when she failed to do so for 80 years and, most likely, much longer.
Just in the US, since 1973, a minimum of 20,000 ADDITIONAL innocents have been murdered by those KNOWN murderers that we have allowed to murder, again - recidivist murderers - just as 500,000 ADDITIONAL innocents have been murdered by those KNOWN criminal that we have allowed to harm again.
The Archbishop states that capital punishment is immoral because jt is “an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the human person.”, which means that for 2000 years, the greatest of Fathers and Doctors of the Roman Catholic Church, her Saints and Popes, her biblical scholars and theologians were oblivious to this obvious moral error, approving or insisting upon capital punishment, which would bring all of Her other judgements into question, as She states the Church cannot commit moral error, which She, now, insists, She did, for 2000 years.
