Ohio Nonsense: Death Penalty Costs

Ohio Nonsense: Cost Review
Death Penalty Costs vs Life Without Parole (LWOP) Costs
and more

Re: Big Story: Capital Punishment, Ohio investigations,
13 ACTION NEWS - WTVG: Video, Josh Croup, Apr. 2, 2026

From: Dudley Sharp, independent researcher, death penalty
expert, former opponent, 832-439-2113, CV at bottom

1) Josh Croup/13 ACTION NEWS - WTVG reported:

"(The Ohio AG's 2024 Capital Crimes Annual Report {1})
estimates the cost of imposing the death penalty, in eac
case, can be as high  as roughly $350 million." (2).

Sharp reply: The AG report made no such claim. It is,
monumentally, inaccurate reporting, which I informed
 13 ACTION NE2) WS - WTVG (43 emails, below)
of, on April 3, 2025, a year ago and there is still no
correction. For me, no surprise.

2) Sharp: None of the cost estimates come from Ohio,
which 13 ACTION NEWS - WTVG did not tell their
audience. A HUGE omission.

3) AG Yost states: "If these estimates apply to Ohio,
then the extra cost of imposing the death penalty on
inmates currently on Death Row might range
between$116 million and $348 million.

Sharp: The $116 up to $348 million is for all 115 Ohio
cases, not one case, as wrongly reported by13  ACTION
NEWS - WTVG.

Fraud, Error and/or MisdirectionS (FEMS)

AG Yost's "IF" is huge.

The cost estimates in other states, excluding all Ohio
costsare, monumentally, absurd, "IF" you fact check
and vet them. I did (3).

All the studies were incomplete and/or deceptive.

Fact checking and vetting found:
a) Some life cases were, actually, more expensive than
death penalty cases, even though the study hid that, but
was found with fact checking and vetting  (3).
b) All alleged costs were included within the death penalty
column, with some or much of the life sentence costs left
out. (3)
c) Often it seemed intentional deception, with others admitting
they may be quite in error (3).

The additional $116-$348 million are estimates based upon other
states NOT OHIO, and they  should not be trusted. Yet, thorough
fact checking and vetting were, intentionally,  avoided. by both the
AG and the media. How do I know? Because they can only be
avoided or hidden, on purpose.

4) Sharp: With a cost variable of $116-$350 million, none from
Ohio, with no fact checking nor vetting, it should have been, not
an "IF", but a

"Why is this nonsense worth any speculation, in Ohio?"

That didn't occur, to anyone?

5) Sharp: How About An Accurate Cost Review?

The steps for an accurate cost comparison are found here (3)
Use them.

6) Sharp: More Media and DeWine Nonsense

Croup/13 ACTION NEWS- WTVG:  Gov. DeWine has a
moratorium  on execution "That is due to a shortage of  lethal
injection drugs."

Sharp: We know that is not true. The drugs are used millions of
times per year, around the globe. There have been over 100 LI
executions, in other states, since Ohio's last one. The truth is that
DeWine is not looking for the drugs and does not want them.
Obvious.

No media interest?

7) Fentanyl

Sharp: Fentanyl is readily available in police evidence rooms,
with not all needed for trial, is free, with only tiny amounts
needed for execution, with quick, painless deaths, welknown,
and, only, testing needed for use, with no reason not to use it.
other than  DeWine, who gives no reason not to use it. Nevada
and Nebraska have fentanyl in their execution protocols  . . .
with no media interest in fact checking, vetting nor critical
thinking, with Gov. DeWine's statement. Of course.

No media interest? Of course not.

8) Sharp: It does not take 22-23 years for executions, because
 of appeals.
Since 1976, Virginia has executed 113 murderers, within
years of full appeals, on average. How? Responsible judges
and protocols.

Ohio media or state legislature interest? None.

In Closing

9) Sharp: When you have constant false claims by anti-death
penalty folks, DeWine and others, and an AG that will not fact
check nor vet the cost studies he used, with a media that
accepts those paths as their own, we only have irresponsible
fact finders, that make no effort to examine the claims but,
still, presents them to the public. Today's media.

10) Sharp: Media, have you not figured out that DeWine may
likely commute all cases on death row, saving all guilty
murderers lives, with the known cost of more innocents
murdered or, otherwise, harmed (4).

DeWine has shown no respect for the  jurors' decisions, nor for
the innocents murdered nor their loved ones.

11) Sharp: Are all of these stories those which Ohio
 citizens deserve to know?

Of course. Will media do so? Likely, no.
